1870's:           Industrial Revolution in Europe

1874:            Pangkor Treaty - End of Larut Wars. Start of British residential system in Malaya. Taiping &      Kamunting towns were established.
1877:            British set up Chinese protectorate in Singapore
1880:            Tin deposits found in Kinta, Perak
1885:            Taiping railway station established
1887:            Taiping Guangtong Association established
1893:           Chinese Government abolished restrictions on immigration    
     
      1904:      Taiping Qing Yuan Association established
1911:            Collapse of Qing Dynasty   
1911 - 1931: British encouraged unrestricted immigration from China, India & The Netherlands
01-Jan-1912: Republic of China proclaimed    
1914:            World War I - Japan seized Shandong province   
1914:            Chan clan left China for first trip to Malaya and settled down in Taiping
1915:            Chung Chow was born in Taiping
1916 - 1927: Non-functioning Chinese Government - Era of provincial warlords    
1918:           Dr. Sun Yat-san founded the Military Government of ROC in Guangzhou   
1918:          Chan Kee & family left Taiping for Chemor to prospect for tin but was unsuccessful
1921:          Communist Party of China (CCP) founded   
1921:          Chan Kee & family returned to China
1923:         Chan Kee went back to Taiping as a Taoist priest
1927:         Chung Chow and mother left China and returned to Taiping to reunite with Chan Kee
1928 - 1937: Civil war between nationalists and communists    
1931:         Japan invaded Manchuria
1937:         Japan attacked Chinese soldiers in Beijing
1937 - 1945: KMT and CCP collaborated to fight the Japanese
 December 1941: Japanese invaded Malaya
February 1942:   September 1945: Japanese Occupation of Malaya; British defeated
August 1942:     Chung Chow married Lee Mooi
August 1945:     Japan surrendered, civil war between KMT and CCP resumed    
June 1948 - July 1960:    Emergency period in Malaya
01-Oct-1949:    People's Republic of China proclaimed by the commnunists    

June 1955:        General Election - Alliance of UMNO, MCA & MIC won
31-Aug-1957:   Malaya gained Independence from the British
August 1963:     Malaysia came into being
May - June 1974: Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak visited PRC, met Chairman Mao & Premier Chou En-lai
